The ELD-X bullet is a state-of-the-art ALL-RANGE hunting ball that features the highest class ballistic coefficients and constant, controlled expansion at ALL hunting distances.

All polymer tips commonly used in ballistic charter balls melt in flight. Hornady engineers have discovered that the bullet tip materials commonly used in the sharp and high-temperature balls of the ballistic charter melt and deform. Aerodynamic heating causes a decrease in calcium concentration and a degradation of accuracy, especially at extended ranges (400 yards and +). To counteract this effect, Hornady identified a heat-resistant polymer and developed the heat shield end. This revolutionary new tip creates the perfect meplat (tip) with exceptionally consistent results from ball to ball and batch to batch.

At conventional range (0-400 yards), the ELD-X ball is designed to continuously extend over its entire penetration. Upon impact, the thin section of the nose of the ball detaches and spills the material until it reaches the thick stem of the ball jacket where the InterLock ring works to keep the core and jacket together. The remaining heavy rod of the ball continues to move forward and grow for extremely lethal results.

During contact with extended range (400 yards), the Heat Shield tip returns to the carefully designed nasal cavity to begin the expansion process. At these lower speeds, the ELD-X ball exhibits classic expansion characteristics with a large fungus and a retained high weight ensuring deep penetration and large wound cavities.
